Just 65 km from Hanoi, Perfume Pagoda is located in Ha Tay province which boasts the highest section of limestone mountains in Vietnam. According to legend, one mountain in this range, which stretches from north to south Vietnam, was home to a kind-hearted, dutiful princess who underwent many hardships, and great danger to pay a ransom for the sins of her father, the king. Due to her self-lessness, courage, and great acts of devotion, she later became a Buddha. Tourists on pilgrimage to Perfume Pagoda feel that are somehow transported from the realm of normal life to a heavenly, poetic world of clouds – water – forest – mountains – caves – and wild animals... Entering Huong Tich Cave, with its ‘tree of rice’, ‘tree of money’, and ‘Buddha’ created over hundreds of years from stalactites, it can truly be named as one of the “highest ranking landscapes of Viet Nam”..
